The lotus is regarded in many cultures as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth.

It begins by growing hidden in deep mud, far away from the sun. But with time, the lotus reaches up towards the light, emerging to become the most beautiful flower.

Lotus Health and Psychology was conceived from a desire to create lasting change in the life of every patient, by establishing a workforce of expert practitioners offering holistic compassionate support.

Perinatal Support

Each Lotus Health and Psychology clinician is expertly trained to provide support through the perinatal period.

We focus on providing compassionate, evidence-based interventions to families wherever they are on their fertility, pregnancy, and parenting journey. This includes, but is not limited to, providing care for people:

  • needing support during treatment for infertility

  • who face of life of involuntary childlessness

  • undertaking donor conception and surrogacy (and also working with those born as a result of these arrangements)

  • after emotionally and physically traumatic birth experiences

  • who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death

  • who are undertaking a pregnancy subsequent to previous obstetric trauma or perinatal loss

  • struggling to connect with their babies due to postnatal depression and anxiety

We also recognise the specific needs of families faced with pregnancy decision making after diagnosis of fetal abnormality, as well as those who might not “fit” typical obstetric and maternity services, such as solo parents, those having their “rainbow baby” after loss, and LGBTIQA+ parents.

Individual Support for Children, Adolescents and Adults

Our therapists are trained to support a whole range of issues, because clients come to therapy for a whole range of reasons.

Our psychologists have been trained to understand a broad range of presenting problems, and have experience working with all of the common psychological disorders as well as many of the less common. We use evidence-based approaches to provide support for both neurotypical and neurodivergent children, adolescents, adults and the elderly.

Our practitioners provide support for neurodivergent children and adults with a neurodiversity-affirming approach. We recognise the unique challenges of neurodivergent people living in a largely neurotypical world and offer tailored care to each individual person based on their specific needs.

We also provide support to parents of neurodivergent children, helping them to understand and advocate for their child, as well as being compassionate with themselves along the way.

Meet Our Director

Lotus Health and Psychology was established in 2022 by Narelle Dickinson, who maintains clinical director oversight.

Narelle has been working as a psychologist in Queensland for almost 30 years, of which, she has spent 25 years working within the perinatal space and over 20 years as a sole practitioner. Through her professional experience, Narelle gained deep insights into, and compassionate understanding of, the needs of people experiencing perinatal challenges. However, she also recognised that she could support far more people if she had a team of other clinicians who were aligned in her goal to provide the highest standard of care to perinatal clients. And so, Lotus Health and Psychology was born.

Since that time, Lotus Health and Psychology has expanded to provide “wrap-around” care to perinatal patients, including psychological, counselling, naturopathic and nutrition, lactation, and parenting support. As more practitioners have joined our team, they have brought with them their unique professional experience, both within and outside of the perinatal space. This has seen Lotus Health and Psychology evolve beyond its original perinatal-focus, to provide integrated support for a variety of other presentations.

Our Space

Our practice, located within an old Queenslander, has been carefully curated to evoke a sense of comfort and homeliness. When you visit us, you will first be met by our divine multi-sensory garden space, including a native floral display, and equipped with play equipment for little hands and feet. Making your way through our iconic green door, you will be welcomed into a caring and nurturing practice space that our clients describe as “feeling like walking into a friend’s home”.

“Look closely and you will see almost everyone carrying bags of cement on their shoulders. That’s why it takes courage to get out of bed in the morning and climb into the day.”
